Notification of Security Compromise

What happened?

On 15 July 2026, we became aware that our IT environment had been accessed unlawfully by an unauthorised third party. As a result of the unauthorised access, data containing personal information was accessed and potentially exfiltrated. We commenced an investigation immediately with the assistance of external forensic specialists. We are taking the necessary steps to contain, assess and remediate the incident and to restore the integrity of our information systems. The identity of the unauthorised party is not known at this time but is suspected to be affiliated with the DragonForce ransomware group.

What personal information may have been affected?

The scope of the compromise is still under investigation. We are working to analyse the types and categories of personal information that may be affected and will issue further guidance as soon as possible. The affected data may include personal information relating to customers, business contacts, service providers, employees or other individuals whose information was held within the affected IT environment.

What have we done?

We take the privacy and security personal information extremely seriously. We have notified the Information Regulator (South Africa) and have implemented various technical measures to strengthen the security of our IT systems, apply enhanced monitoring and threat intelligence measures and to ensure the protection and security of information. We are working closely with external specialists to progress the investigation and to comply with our legal and regulatory obligations. We are also liaising closely with the Board of our parent company, Mustek Limited, on the investigation and remediation of the incident. A SENS announcement has been submitted by Mustek on the 22nd of July 2026.

What are the possible consequences?

A security compromise impacting personal information can give rise to risks including fraud, phishing or social engineering attacks, identity theft or other types of cybercrime.

What can you do?

We encourage you to maintain the following security measures:

Safeguard your personal information

Do not disclose personal information such as passwords and PINs when asked to do so by anyone, whether via email, phone, or text message. Verify all requests for personal information and only disclose it when there is a legitimate reason to do so.

Be vigilant online

Carefully consider emails which contain embedded hyperlinks or unexpected attachments. Avoid clicking on links or downloading attachments from suspicious emails. Be cautious when sharing your ID, address, or bank information - especially in digital formats or with unfamiliar contacts.

Strengthen your security

Change your passwords regularly, using lengthy passwords with complexity, and never share these with anyone else. If you use the same password elsewhere, consider changing it to something strong and unique. Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) for online accounts. Use a secure password manager to create and store strong, unique passwords or passkeys for each account.

Protect your devices

Perform regular anti-virus and malware scans on computers and mobile devices, using software that is up to date. Keep operating systems and apps up to date to protect against vulnerabilities.

Monitor your credit profile

To mitigate any fraudulent consequences, you can place a fraud alert on your credit report at any of the major credit bureaus.
